One night in September 2004, I found myself sitting in a hut in the White Mountains along the Appalachian Trail.  There was a nice, convivial mood amongst the hikers in the room, and I thought, this is the right moment to propose.  Just then, the hut director asked if anyone had any questions. I jumped up and said, “I have one, but not for any of you.”  I introduced myself to the room, about 80 hikers plus hut staff and about 20 other thru-hikers like myself.

“Hi, my name is Stephan.  I started hiking the Appalachian Trail about 5 months ago and on the third day I met this girl, Stephanie.”  I reached down to pull Stephanie up, urging her to stand next to me.  My eyes locked on hers, and I told our story – how we met on the trail, how we had hiked the entire time together, and grew to love each other.  Then I got down on one knee and asked her, “Will you marry me and spend the rest of your life with me?” I was nervous even thought I was pretty sure she would said yes.  I have never said something so personal in front of so many people before.  Fortunately she said yes, and we were married about 4 months later.

I love being married.  It’s the happiest I’ve ever been in my life.  And that’s why I get so excited when I see others embark on this same journey!  I love hearing the story of how two people met, fell in love, and decided get hitched.

Let’s tell your story together!
